Palma is a candidate for the title of European Capital of Culture

In recent years, it has firmly established itself as a leading cultural destination, both in Mallorca and on the national and international stages. Its rich heritage, thriving creative scene and new art galleries have fuelled its bid to become the European Capital of Culture in 2031.

Autumn is an especially vibrant time to experience the city’s cultural offerings. Museums, exhibitions and galleries across the island invite visitors to discover emerging talents and renowned international artists. Much of this artistic energy is concentrated along the cultural route stretching from Passeig del Born through La Lonja to the Es Baluard Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art — the perfect place for visitors seeking cultural experiences in Palma this autumn.

Palma’s new Soho: The district of art and creativity

The Puig de Sant Pere and La Lonja neighbourhoods, historically associated with bohemian and maritime life, have been reborn as the beating heart of Palma’s contemporary art scene. Sant Feliu Street is now a genuine art route, home to exhibition spaces that set trends and spark conversation.

Notable galleries include Gallery Red, the district’s gateway, as well as the Gerhardt Braun Gallery and the Cansalas Gallery & Art House. These galleries showcase innovative proposals that engage with the area’s rich history. The stroll culminates at Es Baluard, the city’s contemporary art epicentre, where international exhibitions meet local talent.

Often referred to as Palma’s artistic Soho, this creative and culturally effervescent area is a must-visit this season.

Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden: Staying in the cultural epicentre

At the heart of this cultural triangle stands the five-star luxury property Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden, which offers so much more than just accommodation. Housed in a sensitively restored 16^(th)-century mansion, it boasts exceptional artistic treasures of its own, including original frescoes by Ricardo Anckermann and European designer furniture with an intriguing provenance.

Recognising its privileged location in the old town of Palma, Can Bordoy has embraced its role as a host for contemporary art. Its vision is clear: to open its doors to exhibitions that engage with the spirit of the house and enrich the cultural experience of residents and guests alike.

‘The Yeti’s Garden’: Contemporary art in a hotel with soul

From 14 August to 31 October 2025, Can Bordoy will present The Yeti’s Garden, an exhibition by Korean artist Miju Lee, born in Busan in 1982. Curated by the Marc Bibiloni Gallery in Madrid, the exhibition will transform the hotel’s spaces into a stage where Lee’s dreamlike creatures and visual poetry intermingle with the mansion’s intimate atmosphere.

Unlike in traditional galleries, the artworks will interact with the building’s stone walls, hidden gardens and historic features, creating a unique and immersive experience.

Internationally renowned for her ability to translate emotions into images, Miju Lee has found an ideal setting in Can Bordoy. Her alter ego, the Yeti, moves through a realm of dreams and memories, much as the hotel embraces guests within an atmosphere that fuses history and modernity.

This collaboration will enrich Mallorca’s cultural scene

The Yeti’s Garden marks the beginning of a partnership between Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden and the Madrid-based gallery, directed by the Mallorcan curator Marc Bibiloni. Through this collaboration, the hotel will strengthen its role as an open, living space for contemporary art, complementing Palma’s existing cultural circuit.

The intention is not to replace traditional galleries, but to provide an alternative experience in which artworks are seamlessly integrated into the emotional and historical fabric of the house, encouraging visitors to engage with culture in a new way.

Immerse yourself in Palma’s art scene this autumn by wandering through the artistic Soho district, before ending the day at Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden, where history, luxury, and creativity converge. Discover inspiring exhibitions, stroll through the old town and allow yourself to be moved by contemporary art in the capital of Mallorca.
